PORTLAND, OR - Career highs by both Alex Tucker and Jordan McCoy propelled the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team to an 85-76 win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday.
The Owls got out to a fast start once again, building a 19-12 lead just over eight minutes into the game. After the Panthers closed to within one at 20-19, FAU went on a 18-6 run to take a 38-25 lead. UWM closed the gap slightly, but Tucker scored the final two of his 13 first half point on a lay-in at the buzzer to send the Owls into the half up 45-34.
UWM roared out of the halftime break with a 16-6 run to make the score 51-50. The Owls answered back with eight of the next nine points to regain an eight point lead. The lead was 65-58 when Greg Gantt scored the next seven Owl points to push the lead out to 11 and the Panthers never got closer than eight points the rest of the way.
Tucker ended up with a game high 18 points, McCoy had 14 points and tied his career high with eight rebounds. Gantt also tallied 18 and Raymond Taylor notched 10 points in his first action of the season.
The win is FAU's first 2-0 start since the 1990-91 season. The Owls will seek the first 3-0 start in program history when they play host Portland in the final game of the Athletes in Action Classic on Sunday.
