MIAMI, FL - The Florida Atlantic volleyball team pushed rival FIU to five sets, but ultimately fell (14-25, 25-20, 13-25, 25-18, 2-15) on Friday night.
The Owls (10-11, 1-4 Sun Belt) fell behind early in the first set, trailing 12-4 in the first set they pulled to within four points on two separate occasions, but couldn't catch up to the Golden Panthers, losing 14-25. The second set went back and forth between the two teams several times. The 13th and final tie of the set cam at 20 before FAU reeled off the next five points, including two kills and a block assist by Kristyna Dzmuranova to win the set.
Set number was three was tied at five before FIU went on a 6-1 run to take an 11-6 lead and won the set going away, 13-25. The fourth set was tied at 15 when the Owls went on 10-3 run to close the set and tie the match at two sets each. The Golden Panthers (9-8, 3-2) had three service aces as they won the set 15-2.
FAU returns home next Friday when they host Western Kentucky. The match starts at 6:30 p.m.
