Men's Swimming Collects 20 Top-Five Finishes Against Georgia Tech & Western Kentucky

Atlanta, Ga. - The Florida Atlantic University men's swimming and diving team posted four event victories among 20 top-five performances in a triangular meet against Georgia Tech and Western Kentucky University on Saturday in Atlanta, Ga.
The Owls suffered a loss by a 185-113 score to Sun Belt Conference opponent WKU and fell 195-97 to Georgia Tech.Junior Csaba Pek paced the Owls' effort with two event victories and a runner-up showing in his three individual races. The Budapest, Hungary native won in dramatic fashion in the 200-yard backstroke, edging Western Kentucky's Adam Dajka by three-tenths of a second with a time of 1:52.80. He trailed with 50-yards remaining before rebounding with a strong final stage. Pek also came in first in the 200-yard individual medley (1:54.54) and was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:37.32).
Senior Adam Corbin won in dominating fashion in the 500-yard freestyle event, scoring a three-second victory (4:38.23). He also earned a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.80).
Meanwhile, junior Mikolaj Czarnecki also had a flare for the dramatic in winning the 200-yard butterfly race. He held off a charge from WKU's Nick Slattery to win the event by three-tenths of a second.
Sophomore Eric Williams recorded two top-five finishes with fourth-place efforts in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle races. Senior Michael Shimansky finished fourth in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:43.76) while senior David Rudolf had two top-five performances, highlighted by a third-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke event (1:53.17). Sophomore Alan Forbes had a fourth place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.58).
In diving, freshman Ryan King earned fifth-place honors in both the 1- and 3-meter boards.
The Owls will return to the pool for a road dual meet against Nova Southeastern University on Friday, October 29 in Davie, Fla., starting at 2 p.m.
