Men's Swimming Posts First Dual Meet Victory

Davie, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men's swimming and diving team picked up its first victory of the season, 132.50-67.50, over Nova Southeastern University on Friday in Davie, Fla.
The Owls captured eight event victories in the meet - by seven different team members. Junior Csaba Pek edged senior David Rudolf for top honors in the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.78) to gain nine team points. Fellow junior Mikolaj Czarnecki won the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.03), while senior Michael Shimansky picked up a six-second victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle race (9:41.48). Shimansky later finished fourth in the 500-yard freestyle.
Other event wins included freshman John Walsh in the 100-yard freestyle (47.32), sophomore Steven Carroll in the 500-yard freestyle (4:41.49), senior Adam Corbin in the 200-yard individual medley (1:54.00) and sophomore Eric Williams in the 50-yard freestyle (21.49).
FAU also took first-place honors in the 400-yard medley relay with team members featuring senior Tyler Griffith, Corbin, Rudolf and Williams. The team of junior Anthony Fermin, Corbin, Walsh and Williams had the fastest time in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The Owls will host an alumni meet as part of Saturday's homecoming festivities, starting at 11 a.m. The team will then host Princeton University in an exhibition dual meet on Friday, November 5 at the FAU Aquatic Center.
