Men's Swimming and Diving Stands Third Heading into Final Day of All Florida Invitational

Gainesville, Fla. - Strong performances have put the Florida Atlantic University men's swimming and diving team comfortably in third place heading into Sunday's final day of the season-opening All Florida Invitational. The Owls are competing in the inaugural event, hosted by the University of Florida, in Gainesville.
FAU has compiled 509 points over the first two days and trail second place Florida State University by 100 points. The host Gators lead the six-team field with 788 points.
The Owls tallied 17 top-10 performances to gain 282 points during Saturday's events. Leading the charge was junior Csaba Pek, who had a third-place showing in the 400-yard individual medley (3:59.26) for 16 points. In the same event, senior Adam Corbin improved his time by five seconds from the preliminary round to finish sixth (4:07.96) and senior Rafael Pena was ninth (4:12.33) for nine important team points.
Another strong event for Florida Atlantic was the 100-yard butterfly with sophomore Eric Williams placing sixth (51.25), junior Mikolaj Czarnecki finishing seventh (51.29) and senior Tyler Griffith ending up in 10th (52.59).
Also, junior Jonathan Van Zee earned a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle event (1:44.71), while sophomore Steven Carroll and senior Eric Jackwin earned ninth and 10th places, respectively, in the event.
Corbin paced the Owls in the 100-yard breaststroke with a sixth-place finish (58.53) for 13 points and sophomore Alan Forbes also earned a top-10 effort in the event.
Two relay teams advanced to Saturday's finals in the 800-yard freestyle event. The combination of Corbin, Pek, Carroll and Czarnecki had a strong third-place finish (6:54.09) for 32 points, while the team of Van Zee, Williams, Jackwin and redshirt senior Trevor Lowe placed fifth (7:00.57).
FAU will wrap up competition on Sunday with finals races set for the afternoon.
