BOCA RATON, FL - The men's soccer team battled back from a first-half deficit to earn a 2-1 win against No. 21 Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday night at the FGCU Soccer Complex.
After falling behind 1-0 after just five minutes of play, FAU settled down and equalized the game before halftime on freshman Ramin Rahemi's first collegiate goal in the 43rd minute.
The Coral Springs native received a pass from teammate Alan Naigeon and stuck one past FGCU keeper Adam Glick to level the game at 1-1. The assist for Naigeon was his first of the season.
Things stayed even for a large part of the second half until Darnell King struck again for FAU.
The junior striker split a pair of Eagles' defenders and beat Glick to the right corner in the 71st minute to put FAU ahead for good 2-1. The goal for King's was his team-leading third of the season. James McCormick shook off the early goal and made four saves in his second straight victory in net.
"The team demonstrated great commitment tonight coming from a goal down," said head coach Kos Donev. "The players stepped up to the challenge and pulled off a great come from behind win."
The Owls (4-6-2, 1-2-0) have now won two straight for the first time since September of last season when FAU defeated FGCU and Howard in back-to-back matches.
FAU returns to action on Sunday when they seek their third straight victory at home against Hartwick. Opening kick is set for 2 p.m. from the FAU Soccer Stadium.
