BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic men's soccer teams begins its week on Wednesday evening as they welcome in-state rival Central Florida to the FAU Soccer Stadium for a 7 p.m. match. The Owls defeated UCF 1-0 last year in a late-season matchup in Orlando, FL.
FAU enters the match with sophomore Darnell King as their leading scorer with five points (two goals, one assist). King was feeling under the weather over the weekend but still managed to score the game-tying goal in Friday's 1-1 tie with Manhattan and also tallied the assist on the go-ahead goal in Sunday's 2-0 victory over Houston Baptist.
The Owls (3-2-1) have also received stellar performances in net from a pair of freshman goalkeepers, Ciro Martinez and Jeremy Crumpton. The two newcomers have only allowed four goals against in six games (.067/game) which is ranked third in the MAC. Crumpton has also tallied three shutouts in his first four starts in net. After Wednesday's matchup against the Knights, the Owls will hit the road to Jacksonville for a Sunday afternoon contest with North Florida at 3 p.m.
FAU will then get a full week off before beginning conference play on October 3rd against the No. 1 team in the NSCAA/adidas poll and the defending conference champions, the Akron Zips.
