Senior Lou Morie is off to a good start defending his 2009 Iron Owl award. The pitcher is in first place in the 2010 Iron Owl standings after just two events.
On Friday, Morey finished in first place in event #2, the obstacle course. Morey also finished in a tie for first with 60 points during the first event, a knowledge quiz.
The award indentifies the strongest Owl baseball player - both mentally and physically. A series of events will be held throughout the fall season that will test each student-athletes' physical strength, knowledge of the game and academic performance.
Each event and category will be graded and a running total of each player's rank is kept by the FAU coaching staff.
The `Iron Owl' competition was debuted prior to the 2009 preseason. Its goal is the encouragement of team camaraderie, while at the same time making sure each individual player understands what is like to compete on a daily basis. It is our aim that each player reaches their highest-potential in the weight room, on the field and in the classroom.
This year's winner will be offically crowned during the Owls 2010 home opener.
