BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Florida Atlantic University softball team swept a doubleheader for the first time since opening day on the strength of six homeruns against Western Kentucky on Wednesday night.
Blair Bodenmiller hit a solo homerun that put the Owls ahead 1-0 in the second inning of game one. The Hilltoppers scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and were one out away from taking the game when Becky Brandies hit a homer with Christine Houghtaling on first that gave FAU the lead. Kerri Croney immediately followed with her first homerun of the season to stretch the lead to 4-2. Rose Gressley went the distance, allowing just four hits for her third win in a row.
In the second game, the Owls were trailing 5-2 in the fourth inning when they exploded for eight runs behind homeruns by Caitlyn Bliss, Brandies and Ashlyn Parmerter. Amber Barton added a three-run triple. A Houghtaling RBI double provided the final margin of victory. Carrie Ann Potter went five innings for the win.
FAU will seek the series sweep on Thursday night. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. eastern start. Live stats will be available via GameTracker at www.fausports.com.
