BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University softball team lost its first two Sun Belt games to North Texas 10-2 on Saturday night.
FAU trailed 3-2 entering the fifth inning of game one and allowed seven Mean Green runs on six hits to put the mercy rule into effect. Caitlyn Bliss led off the bottom of the inning with a base hit, but the next three hitters were retired in order to win the game. Carrie Ann Potter took the loss.
In game two, solo homeruns by Caitlyn Bliss and Blair Bodenmiller and a Jenna Schwarz sacrifice gave FAU a 3-0 lead headed into the top of the seventh. Rose Gressley was one out away from the win when an Owl fielding error and a Katie Platt homerun tied the game. The Mean Green scored two runs in the eighth to take a 5-3 lead. Cari Curfman drove in Brittany Walker and put the tying run on third, but FAU was unable to score to give UNT the 5-4 win.
The Owls will try to avoid the sweep in the final game of the series, Sunday at 11 a.m. Live stats and play-by-play of the game will be available at www.fausports.com.
