BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's women's team defeated the University of Massachusetts 5-2, on a rainy St. Patrick's day afternoon.
The Owls captured the doubles point with an 8-5 win by Natalia Totevska and Dominique Wimmer at no. 1 and a win at no. 3 doubles by Danielle Simone and Erika Mrazkova.
FAU then saw UMass even the score at one with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at no. 6 over FAU's Cassie Bergeson. Erika Mrazkova pulled the Owls ahead on court four with a 6-2, 6-0 straight set win. Senior Danielle Simone added FAU's third point on court three defeating Tanisha Hodgson 6-3, 6-2. UMass would then pull within one on court two with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Natalia Totevska.
Dominique Wimmer, playing no. 1 for just the third time, clinched the dual match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory and Virginia Augustin won her seventh match of the season with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 victory at no. 5 over UMass' Lauren MacKay.
FAU which moved to 6-14 on the year will next play host to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, 10 a.m., March 29 at Patch Reef Park.
