NEW ORLEANS, LA - A stifling defensive effort in the second half allowed the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team to defeat the University of New Orleans 66-48 on Monday night.
The Owls started the game on an 11-2 run and had a 34-28 lead at halftime behind 11 points from Raymond Taylor and 10 from Sanchez Hughley. FAU led 41-34 in the second half when UNO scored 10 consecutive points to take a 44-41 lead. Brett Royster then scored five straight points that began a 16-0 run for FAU.
FAU held UNO without a field goal for the final 13:24 of the game and surrendered only four points over that time. The win is Mike Jarvis' first Sun Belt road win and FAU's first since a 99-93 win over Troy on February 27, 2008.
The Owls take on Miami on Saturday at the Bank Atlantic Center as part of the Orange Bowl Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
