BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic women's basketball team fell to Ole Miss 80-57 in the championship game of the FAU/Boca Raton Bridge Hotel Holiday Tournament Saturday afternoon at FAU Arena.
The Owls (3-4) were led on offense by Andrea Taylor who scored 11 points and made 3-of-6 three-point field goals. Breana Koné and Breana Turner also scored in double-digits with 10 points each.
The Rebels (5-1) received a standout performance from Bianca Thomas, who led all scorers with 30 points. The senior All-SEC guard was also named the tournament MVP after averaging 20.5 points over the two games. Kayla Holloway and Elizabeth Robertson also added 10 points apiece for Ole Miss in the victory.
FAU matched blows with Ole Miss in the early parts of the first half after Taylor's first three-pointer of the game gave the Owls an 8-5 lead four minutes in. The Rebels would turn the tide however and go on a 23-8 run over the next 10 minutes. Ole Miss was able to take a 42-29 lead into the halftime locker room.
The second half provided little momentum for the Owls as a Robertson two-point jumper gave Ole Miss a 57-36 lead with 13:02 remaining. The Rebels controlled things the rest of the way and traded baskets with FAU until the final whistle.
Senior point guard Brittany Bowe finished with four points but was still named to the all-tournament team with an 11.5 point average through the two games played. The Ocala native had 19 points in FAU's first round vcitory over Fordham on Friday.
