FAU Knocks Off Fordham 66-53

BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic women's basketball team defeated Fordham 66-53 on Saturday afternoon in the first round of the FAU Holiday Tournament at FAU Arena.
The Owls (2-3) were led on offense by Brittany Bowe who scored 19 points and made 7-of-13 shots from the field. Bowe also was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line and tallied a game-high eight assists.
The Rams (2-3) were led on offense by Randall Hurst who scored 15 points and led all rebounders with nine. Katie Vican also added 12 points for Fordham and made 2-of-3 from three-point range.
The game was a back-and-forth affair in the first half as neither team established a lead of more then eight. However, with the game tied at 18-18 with 7:14 remaining, FAU began to take control of the game as they closed the half on a 15-7 run.
In the second half, FAU continued to take a firm grip on the contest. The Owls extended the lead to 49-36 after a Brittany Bowe lay up with 13:10 remaining. The Rams continued to play hard but couldn't complete the comeback as FAU made their free-throws down the stretch to ice the game. The Owls went 7-of-9 from the free-throw line with five of those makes coming in the second half.
FAU will return to action tomorrow afternoon at 4 pm in the championship game of the tournament against the winner of San Jose State and Ole Miss in the other first round game. The game can be heard live online at www.fausports.com with the pregame show starting at 3:45.
