BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball recovered from losing the first set to defeat Florida Gulf Coast in four sets (24-26, 25-21, 25-21, 25-18) on Tuesday night.
The Owls held a lead as big as four points in the first set and had a set point at 24-23, but the Eagles reeled off three points in a row to take the set 26-24. In the second set, FAU used a 9-3 run, including two kills, a service ace and an assist by Kristyna Dzmuranova to power a 25-21 win.
FGCU outhit, outdug and outblocked the Owls in the third set, but FAU still managed to win 25-21 behind five kills from Christina Wallinger. The fourth set was tied at 12, before the Owls went on a 12-5 run, with Wallinger providing four more kills during that stretch to take a 24-17 lead. A Dzmuranova kill gave the Owls the set and the match 25-18.
Cintia Nightingale had a match high 19 digs for FAU.
The Owls continue their five match homestand on Friday when they host Arkansas State. The match is scheduled to start 7 p.m.
