BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University track and field assistant coach Owen McGregor is in Beijing, China for the 2008 Summer Olympics.
"It is the greatest feeling in the world, and it's an opportunity for people to see the FAU name on the biggest stage in the world," said McGregor. "FAU has gotten a lot of attention over the last year with the football team winning the New Orleans Bowl and as host of the Republican presidential debate. Hopefully, this will raise the university's profile even further."
McGregor, who coaches the Owls' jumpers and sprinters, is at the games as the coach of Belizean sprinter Jason Jones. Jones participates in FAU's post-graduate program, which McGregor oversees. The post-graduate program is for runners who train at FAU after they have exhausted their college eligibility. Jones will participate in the 100- and 200-meter dashes at the Games.
Preliminaries will be held for the 100-meter dash on Friday, August 15 with semifinals and finals on Saturday, August 16. The first two rounds of the 200-meter dash will be held on Monday, August 18, followed by semifinals on Thursday, August 19 and the finals on Friday, August 20.
