BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic softball team (35-23, 17-7 Sun Belt) lost to Florida International 8-2 on Saturday night. The loss ended the Owls' seven game winning streak and their 10-game regular season winning streak against the Golden Panthers.
The Golden Panthers (28-32, 12-11) scored a run in both the first and second inning to take a 2-0 lead. The score was still 2-0 in the top of the fifth inning when Florida International scored eight runs, including two three-run homeruns to take a 10-0 lead.
Melissa Moore drove in Jessica Myers with her first career triple to put the Owls on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth. FAU had the bases loaded with just one out, but a Lauren Crandall strikeout and a groundout by Kerri Croney ended the game.
FAU finishes second in Sun Belt play at 17-7 and will be the second seed for the conference tournament that starts on Wednesday.
The Owls finish the regular season on Sunday when they face Stetson in DeLand at 3 p.m. Live play-by-play and stats of the game will be available at fausports.com.
