BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's softball team will play Troy University in a doubleheader beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 5 at FAU Softball Stadium, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.
Troy is one of FAU's oldest rivals, going back to the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Owls lead the all-time series 18-8, but dropped four in a row to the Trojans before taking the final two meetings last season, including a 1-0 win in the title game of the Sun Belt Tournament.
The Trojans (23-15, 8-4) have five players hitting .300 or better this season, led by senior infielder Courtney Davis, who has a .349 average. Troy enters the week on a five-game winning streak after sweeping Western Kentucky University the weekend of March 28. The Trojans won the regular season series with the Owls in 2007, taking the first two games in Alabama before FAU rebounded to take the series finale 5-1.
The Owls (25-18, 7-2 Sun Belt) are coming off of a three game sweep of the University of South Alabama. This weekend's series may go a long way in ultimately determining seeding for the conference tournament. FAU is currently first in the conference, while Troy is third. Florida International University is in second with a 6-2 record in Sun Belt play.
The first 100 fans in attendance of Saturday's doubleheader will receive free "Owl Towels," and all fans will be able to participate in numerous promotions throughout the evening. Live stats and play-by-play of the weekend's games will be available at www.fausports.com.
