The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team committed 27 turnovers and couldn't overcome a big offensive rebound effort from Arkansas State. The Lady Indians got 27 offensive rebounds as they defeated FAU 68-50 in the first round of the Sun Belt women's championship in Jonesboro, AR.

Things started out promising for FAU early. Carla Stubbs hit two early lay-ups and after two Brittany Bowe free-throws, FAU had their biggest lead at 13-6. Arkansas State would respond, led by Angie Criner, who had eight first half points. The Lady Indians went on a 13-0 run to grab the lead and Arkansas State led 33-27 at halftime.

In the second half, FAU would make it tight momentarily. Hannah Jones came off the bench to get a couple of lay-ups, the second of which tied the game at 35. However, FAU wouldn't take the lead in the ballgame. As the Lady Indians drew fouls on FAU throughout the second half. ASU went 19-27 from the foul line in the second half. Brittany Hiles went a perfect six of six from the foul line, and up 54-46, the Indians went on a late 12-1 run to put the game out of reach.

Criner led three ASU (19-11) players in double-figures with 14 points. Sherina Scott and Hiles each added 12 points. Scott notched a double-double with 12 rebounds. ASU outrebounded FAU 54-36 in the ballgame. The Indians will advance to the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt tournament to face South Alabama on Saturday.

FAU was led by Breana Cox who scored 10 points, she was the only player in double-figures for the Owls. FAU shot eight of 19 of 52 (36 percent) in the ballgame and only hit three of 13 from beyond the arc.

FAU's season comes to an end at 6-22.
