BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic softball team completed a three-game sweep of conference rival Western Kentucky 6-2 on Thursday night.
A Christine Houghtaling single drove in Lauren Crandall to give FAU (17-12, 3-0) a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The Owls used base hits by both Caitlyn Bliss and Becky Brandies to score two more runs in the bottom of the third to take a 3-0 lead. Rebecca Horesky homered to cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the fourth, but FAU responded in the bottom of the inning, as Blair Bodenmiller hit a two-run shot to give the Owls a 5-1 lead.
Crandall doubled in Bliss in the bottom of the sixth to stretch the lead to 6-1. The Hilltoppers scored a run in the top of the sixth, but Rose Gressley retired the side in order in the seventh to end the game. Amber Barton went four innings for her 10th win of the season. Gressley pitched three innings in relief.
FAU returns to action tomorrow night when they face Western Kentucky and Quinnipiac as part of the Parents' Weekend tournament. The game against the Hilltoppers will not count against either team's conference record. The games are scheduled to start at 6 and 8 p.m. respectively and live audio of both games will be available at fausports.com.
