The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team returns to Louisiana this week after getting its first win over Louisiana-Lafayette 65-62 last Saturday. The Owls will face the Warhawks of Louisiana-Monroe Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., before returning home to face Arkansas State on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the FAU Arena.
FAU senior Adel Lizama had a career game on Saturday. She went four of six from beyond the arc for a career-high 12 points in the win over the Ragin' Cajuns. Mercedes Thompson also turned in a career-best performance, scoring 18 points on seven of eight shooting last Thursday in the Owls 76-63 loss to New Orleans.
ULM comes into Wednesday's game at 6-4 in the Sun Belt after a 61-51 loss to South Alabama on Saturday. The Warhawks are a balanced scoring team led by center Shannon Lloyd who averages 10 points per game, along with guard Lottie Moore, who averages 9.8 points per game. ULM is 7-0 in games following a loss. Wednesday's game can be heard on www.fausports.com beginning at 6:15 p.m.
Arkansas State and FAU have met once before in the regular season. The Lady Indians took advantage of a season-high 37 Owl turnovers to defeat FAU 72-46 on December 18. ASU comes into the week at 7-4 in the conference and is led by freshman guard Angie Criner, who had a career-high 29 points against Western Kentucky last week.
FAU is participating on Saturday in the NCAA/Sun Belt Conference "Pack the House Challenge" to see which school can bring in the most fans. Events that day include the "Think Pink" breast cancer awareness initiative and National Women in Sports day. On Friday, join head women's basketball coach Chancellor Dugan and head men's basketball coach Rex Walters for the coaches' breakfast at 8 a.m. at the Founders Lounge of the Tom Oxley Athletic Center. Both coaches will provide the scouting reports for Saturday's game with Arkansas State. Coffee and donuts will be provided free courtesy of Dunkin' Donuts.
