MURFREESBORO, TN - After finishing in eighth place at last year's meet, the Florida Atlantic track team placed fifth at this year's Sun Belt Indoor Championships.
Yanique Booth recorded two second place finishes, in the 55 meter dash and 55 meter hurdles. In the 55 meter dash, Booth finished in a school record and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 6.92 seconds. Her time of 7.79 in the 55 meter hurdles was lower than the previous Sun Belt Championship meet record, but North Texas' Lauren Wiggins time of 7.74 gave her the win. Booth was named an All-Conference Performer in both events.
In the 200 meters, Trishauna Clarke ran a school record time of 24.55 in the preliminaries and ultimately finished in sixth place. Brandi Prather (24.76) and Krystal McCarty (25.12) both ran personal bests in the event. Prather's time of 55.85 in the 400 meters would have been a school record, but she was disqualified for stepping out of her lane. Toyria Mattear's time of 56.10 in the event set the new FAU mark.
Toni Jackson (2:18.59) and Charlene Luxama (2:19.94) set personal bests in the 800 meters, as did Caitlin Bowne and Amber McGillicuddy in the high jump. Friederike Feil was unable to successfully defend her 3,000 meter title, although she did finish third, good enough to earn All-Conference honors.
The Owls excelled in the relays at the meet as the distance medley team of Jackson, Lindsay Glover, Patricia Gumbs and Feil was named All-Conference. In the 4x400 relay Mattear, Booth, Prather and Clarke set a school record of 3:47.40 (conv.), to finish third.
