Briana Hinkle led Illinois-Chicago with 14 points on Wednesday Night against Florida Atlantic University. The Owls shot only 26 percent from the field (16-60) en route to falling to the Flames 53-40.
Neither team shot the ball very well in the first half. However, UIC got off to a 6-0 start in the first two minutes of the ballgame. The Flames never trailed after that as FAU made seven of 28 shots from the field and trailed 28-18 at halftime. The Owls would cut the lead to seven early in the second half on one of Carla Stubbs' three three-point baskets. However, FAU couldn't get any closer as the Flames out rebounded FAU 51-42, and went on an 8-0 run late in the second half to seal the victory.
"We cut hard and fought in the second half, but we just got tired," said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. "I'm looking forward to the next ten days because we've got some work to do."
UIC (4-0) shot 33 percent on the game (21-63) and was led by Hinkle's 14 points. Jessie Miller added 11 points for the Flames.
FAU (3-4) was led by Carla Stubbs, who was the only Owl to crack double-figures with 11 points. The Owls committed 21 turnovers.
FAU returns to action on Saturday, December 13 at the University of Denver at 3 p.m. Live streaming audio can be heard on www.fausports.com.
