Six players scored double-figures for Texas, led by Brittainey Raven's 13 points and the Longhorns outscored Florida Atlantic 54-15 in the second half as FAU fell to Texas 87-38 in the finals on the FAU Thanksgiving Classic on Sunday.
FAU got off to a good start early, leading 7-0 three minutes in after a lay-up by Carla Stubbs. Texas went more than five minutes before scoring their first field goal on a jumper by Yvonne Anderson. The Longhorns would then pick it up and take the lead on two free-throws by Tournament Classic MVP Carla Cortijo, who scored 12 points. The Longhorns would not trail after that, leading 34-23 at the half.
"We played ok in the first half," said Chancellor Dugan. "We've just got to put two halves together."
Raven was named to the All-Tournament Team along with Kathleen Nash, who scored 12 points on three-of-five shooting. Erika Arriarian, Yvonne Anderson, and Ashleigh Fontenette added 10 points apiece as the Longhorns shot 50 percent (32-64) on the game and out rebounded FAU 51-30.
Carla Stubbs was the lone Owl to be named to the All-Tournament Team and also the lone FAU player to score double-digits as she led the Owls with 10 points. FAU shot four for 25 in the second half and committed 21 turnovers.
Brigitte Ardossi was the other player named to the FAU Thanksgiving Classic All-Tournament team. She scored 18 points on Sunday in leading Georgia Tech to a 68-56 win over Tennessee Tech in the consolation team Sunday afternoon.
FAU falls to 3-3 on the season and returns to action on Wednesday night at Illinois-Chicago at 8 p.m.
