Florida Atlantic was unable to overcome a 61 percent shooting effort from Georgia Southern. Four players scored in double-figures for the Eagles as they defeated FAU at FAU Arena 83-67 on Monday night.
The Owls never led as Georgia Southern went out on an 8-0 run after an Ashley Melson three-pointer made it 12-3 and FAU never got close after that. Melson led all scorers with 23 points and was a perfect three-of-three from beyond the arc. J'Lisia Ogburn and Ashley Rivens had 14 points apiece for the Eagles (2-0) and Carolyn Whitney added 12, going a perfect six-of-six from the foul line.
"Our defensive pressure was terrible," said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. "We've definitely got to figure out some things in the next few days."
Florida Atlantic (0-2) was led for the second straight game by Breana Turner, who paced the Owls with 17 points on seven-of-20 shooting. Jessica Knurick added 10 points. The Owls shot 27 of 74 from the field and were outrebounded by the Eagles 38-33.
Florida Atlantic will go for its first win of the season on Saturday when they travel to Orlando to face Central Florida at 5 p.m.
