MAC Conference Player of the Week
Florida Atlantic University senior Shire Standnes was named the Mid-American Conference co-player of the week as announced by the league office on Monday, October 20. Standnes scored the game winning goals in both of last week's sudden-death overtime victories against Duke University and Bowling Green State University. Standnes leads FAU with six goals this season.
FAU has completed its 2008 home schedule but still has four regular season matches remaining, all of which are in Florida. This Tuesday, October 21 at 7:30 p.m. FAU plays the University of South Florida (8-3-2) in Tampa. In the last three matches USF is 2-1, with wins over the University of Louisville and the University of Central Florida but most recently losing to St. John's University 1-0. FAU is 3-9-1 all time against the Bulls.
Later this week FAU plays the University of Central Florida (6-7-0) on Saturday, November 1 at 7 p.m. UCF is 1-2 in their last three matches, beating the University of Alabama at Birmingham but losing to USF and the University of Tulsa. The Knights lead the all-time series against FAU 17-7-1.
The Owls will also make trips to Florida International University and Florida Gulf Coast University in the coming weeks before starting the Mid-American Conference playoffs on November 13.
