NEWARK, NJ - Playing their first game away from home this season, the Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team won their third straight in a 2-0 decision over New Jersey Institute of Technology in the Atlantic Soccer Conference opener for both teams at Lubetkin Field Friday night.
Junior midfielder Igor Santos registered his first and second goals of the year just twelve minutes apart, securing the margin of victory for FAU. In the game's 33rd minute, Santos took a pass from junior midfielder Liam Ogle and rattled a shot off the left post and into the top of the net to break the ice at 1-0. The Pompano Beach, FL native added an insurance goal in the opening moments of the second half on a feed from Dag Bjorgum.
Phillip Lamarre continued to shine in goal for the Owls, notching his third consecutive shutout to lead the Atlantic Soccer Conference in that category. The sophomore turned aside seven shots in running his scoreless minute streak to 290.
FAU committed 17 fouls to just 9 for NJIT, but maintained a disciplined offensive attack with just two offsides calls to the Highlanders' six. With the win, the Owls improved their record to 4-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in ASC play.
Florida Atlantic continues their road trip with a Sunday morning match-up with Manhattan College starting at 10 a.m. Fans can follow all of the action in real time by logging onto www.gojaspers.com.
