BOCA RATON, FL - Jen Musillo and Mandie Fishback, senior members of the Florida Atlantic University softball team, were selected as members of the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Second-Team All-Southeast Region squad on Wednesday.
The duo helped the Owls to both the regular and postseason Sun Belt Conference titles, finishing the 2007 season with a 42-23 record.
Musillo, who last week was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year and the Championship Tournament's Most Outstanding Performer, finished the season with a 1.36 ERA in 251 2/3 innings of work.
She used a 12-game winning streak to push her record to 26-11 with nine solo shutouts on the season. The Tequesta, FL native struck out 275 batters, the fourth-highest single-season total in FAU history, and held opponents to a .199 batting average.
Musillo's other 2007 honors include two Sun Belt Player of the Week awards, Sun Belt Preseason Pitcher of the Year, Preseason All-Conference, First-Team All-Conference and All-SBC Tournament honors.
Fishback finished with the fourth-highest batting average in FAU history at .366 and the fourth-highest doubles total with 15. She led the team nearly every offensive category with the exception of stolen bases and was a feared force in the middle of the Owl batting order.
The Banks, OR native was named the Sun Belt's Player of the Year last week and a member of the First-Team All-Conference. She also was named to the All-SBC Tournament Team for her efforts during the Owls championship run in 2007.
Fishback also was named SBC Player of the Week twice.
The athletes selected to the first and second teams, chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams.
Those selections will be announced on May 30.
