Friederike Feil was named Sun Belt Runner of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
The freshman from Germany ran a 10:49.93 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the Florida Relays. Her time demolished the previous school record by more than 70 seconds and made her the second Owl to automatically qualify for the NCAA East Regional. Yanique Booth has posted three qualifying times in the 100-meter hurdles.
Feil joins Booth and Brandi Prather as Owls who have won conference honors during the outdoor season. Feil was also named Cross Country Runner of the Week on Sept. 19.
"She's the first runner we've ever had qualify at a distance longer than 800 meters," Head Track Coach Alex Smolka said. "It's even more amazing when you realize it's only the second time in the last year that she has run that event."
FAU returns to action when it travels to the Miami Elite Invitational on Saturday April 14.
