BOCA RATON, FL - Blair Bodenmiller had five RBI as Florida Atlantic University defeated North Texas 8-1 at FAU Softball Stadium in five innings for the first Sun Belt Conference win in program history on Saturday.
Jen Musillo got the start on the mound and allowed an unearned run in the first inning. FAU came back with two in the second and three runs in each of the third and fourth innings.
The Owls got on the board on a two-run home run off the bat of Bodenmiller in the second to take a 2-1 lead. Mandie Fishback made it 3-1 with a solo home run leading off the third inning. FAU's fourth run came home after Bodenmiller was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Charlotte Baird reached on an infield single to push FAU's margin to four, 5-1.
Fishback doubled leading off the fourth and scored on a Lauren Crandall double. Bodenmiller drove in her fourth and fifth runs of the night on a two-run double down the left field line after Melissa Moore was hit by a pitch.
Musillo (7-7) got the win, going four innings, allowing two hits and striking out eight. Kathryn Stauffer pitched a scoreless fifth.
The game was ended after five innings because the lights at FAU Softball Stadium were not working properly. The game was scheduled as part of a doubleheader. Game two will now take place as a doubleheader on Sunday, scheduled for 10 a.m.
