Florida Atlantic University's softball team took both of its games on the opening day of the Pepsi Classic.
The Owls defeated James Madison University 5-4 in its first game of the evening. The Dukes held FAU to just one hit through five innings when the Owls scored five runs in a sixth inning rally that included three Duke errors. JMU scored two runs is the bottom of the seventh to pull with one run when Meghan Doonan came on to relieve starter Amber Barton and recorded the final two outs of the game.
The Owls were deadlocked in a 1-1 tie with Bethune Cookman until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Wildcats recorded two errors in an eight-run inning that saw FAU bat around the order. The two victories improve the Owls' record to 7-5 on the year.
Action continues in the Pepsi Classic on Saturday when Jacksonville University faces James Madison University at 9 a. m. The Owls take the field to face Illinois and Texas Tech with scheduled start time of 6 p .m. and 8 p.m. respectively.
