Owls Wrap Up Season With Final Two Conference Games

Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic Women's Basketball team will close out its regular season this week with a home game on Thursday against South Alabama and their final road contest against Middle Tennessee State on Saturday. Thursday's game will be Senior Day and the last time four r Owl seniors will get to play at FAU Arena.
"I'm looking forward to Senior Day and our last game on the road Saturday," said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. "We're hoping to end the regular season on a high note with some wins."
Florida Atlantic (5-23, 1-15 SBC) snapped a 12-game losing streak and won its first ever Sun Belt game, 68-61, on Sunday afternoon against New Orleans. Two players recorded double-doubles for FAU. Mistoria Brown had 18 points and 10 rebounds to notch her fifth double-double this season. Carla Stubbs put in 10 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double at Florida Atlantic.
Brittney Crenshaw had a big week and was a main component in the Owls securing their first Sun Belt victory. Over the past two games she has averaged 17.5 points-per-game with six rebounds and 3.5 assists. She matched a career high with 18 points against New Orleans.
Entering the final stretch of the season, the Owls still have themselves in a position to move up in the Sun Belt conference tournament seedings. If the regular season were to end today, FAU would be a 13 seed and take on the fourth seed on Wednesday, February 28. However, if Florida Atlantic can win at least one more game they may have a chance to move up to 12 depending on how New Orleans finishes out their campaign.
On Thursday, four Owls will be honored before the game for Senior Day. The list of graduating seniors include: Demina Anderson, Mistoria Brown, Sally N'Diaye, and Cristal Randolph.
South Alabama (12-14, 6-10 SBC) is coming off a crucial Sun Belt victory over FIU, 56-46, on Sunday. The Jaguars are still vying for the eighth seed in the tournament, which would give them a home game in the first round. They boast two players scoring in double digits. Senior Whitney Woodard has 14.7 points-per-game with 7.1 rebounds a contest. Junior Monique Jones puts in 12.2 points-per-game and is the team's primary three point shooter. When the teams last met on January 6 it was South Alabama getting the victory, 69-57. All time the Jaguars lead the series 2-1.
Middle Tennessee State (24-3, 16-0 SBC) has already clinched the one seed and a bye in the first round of the Sun Belt conference tournament. They outlasted FIU, 66-59, at home on Thursday. The Blue Raiders have now won 21 straight games. Before hosting their season finale against the Owls on Saturday, they will travel to play Troy on Thursday. MTSU has the Sun Belt pre-season player of the year in Senior Chrissy Givens. She has 21.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists-per-game. Senior Amber Holt is another post threat, compiling 17.5 points and 6.2 rebounds a game. The last time the teams met it was Middle Tennessee earning the 78-48 victory. All-time the Blue Raiders hold a 2-0 series lead.
Thursday's home finale versus South Alabama will tip at 7 p.m. from FAU Arena. On Saturday the Owls will play at 4 p.m. from the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro, TN. Both games can be heard for free on fausports.com.
