BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's softball team dropped a 2-1 decision to Eastern Carolina, on Saturday. FAU jumped on the board in the top of the fourth with a solo homer by Amy Bukovich. It was her first and the team's sixth this season by six different players.
The Owls held the Pirates scoreless through 5 2/3 when Paige Baggett hit a two-out single and scored on a homer by Jessica Johnson. ECU returned to the field needing to hold the Owls to secure the win. Amber Barton led off the inning with a single moved to second on a sacrifice and then to third on a ground out. The game ended with excitement as the game-tying run scored just prior to the batter being thrown out at first from right to preserve the victory for ECU.
FAU returned to the field to finish a late game with no. 14 Michigan which would help determine Sunday's seeding. Game times for Sunday are 9 a.m., featuring St. John's and Long Island. The 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. game has not yet been determined.
