DENVER, CO - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball dropped its third consecutive Sun Belt match (18-30, 24-30, 28-30) to Denver on Friday night.
The first game started with the two teams exchanging point before the Pioneers took a 14-9 lead. The lead ballooned to a 24-15 margin as the Owls were outhit .400 to -.036 in an 18-30 defeat.
Game two was a back and forth tussle that featured 12 ties and three lead changes. The final lead change came on a Kim Muller kill that gave the Pioneers a 19-18 lead. Denver outscored FAU 11-6 the rest of the way to take a two games to none lead.
Denver got out to an early 12-7 game three lead. The Owls rallied to tie the game at 13, and the neither team would gain a lead bigger than two points the rest of the game. A Pioneer service ace and a bad set by Casey LaRocca gave Denver the game and the match.
Mallory Deneen posted her second double-double of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs. FAU falls to 6-11 on the year and 3-4 in Sun Belt play. The Owls wrap up the weekend on Sunday when they face North Texas in Denton. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. eastern start time.
