TROY, AL - After enduring four games without a win and six games scoring a goal or less, The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team snapped both streaks emphatically with a 3-0 victory over Troy on Sunday.
Susanna Lehtinen struck first, burying her fifth goal of the season on a breakaway just over nine minutes into the contest. The senior forward generated an astounding 12 shots of her own, including seven on goal, contributing to an overwhelming 29-5 advantage in that category by the Owls over the Trojans on the day.
Anhnhi Tran beat Troy goalkeeper Karla Smith one-on-one in the 37th minute of the match, staking FAU to a 2-0 lead at the half.
Alicia Tirelli added an insurance goal for the Owls, assisted by Monique Cabrera in the 76th minute. It was the senior forward's team-leading sixth goal of the season, to go along with four shots on goal for the game.
Junior goalkeeper Jessica Badders earned her sixth victory of the year for FAU, stopping all three shots on goal. The Southlake, TX native has posted six shutouts as well this season, including five of her wins and a scoreless tie against the University of Florida.
Florida Atlantic (6-7-2, 3-4-1 Sun Belt) returns home to face Arkansas State this Friday at FAU Field, beginning at 7 p.m. Live updates are available via GameTracker by logging onto fausports.com.
