BOCA RATON, FL - Middle Tennessee defeated the Florida Atlantic University volleyball team (26-30, 22-30, 16-30) on Thursday night.
The match was played at Grandview Preparatory School due to renovations of the FAU Arena. The Owls (6-13, 3-6 Sun Belt) found themselves down 19-14 in game one before rallying to tie the match at 21. Middle Tennessee (20-1, 7-0) outscored FAU 9-5 the rest of the way to take game one 30-26. The two teams battled tooth and nail from the very beginning of game two. The 13th and final tie of the game came at 18 before the Blue Raiders went on a 12-4 run, capped by two Ashley Ansberry kills to take the game 30-22.
Middle Tennessee took control early on in the third game as Ashley Mead had five kills and Ashley Adams had four on the way to a 30-16 victory.
Mallory Deneen had a match-high 13 kills for FAU. It is the fourth time in the lat seven matches that the freshman has had double-digit kills. Saturday's match against Western Kentucky will be held at Lynn University at 2 p.m. Lynn University is located at 3601 North Military Trail in Boca Raton, approximately 3.5 miles from the FAU campus.
