BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team lost to Western Kentucky in three games (23-30, 25-30, 28-30) on Saturday.
The match was played at Lynn University while renovations on FAU Arena are being completed. The Owls (6-14, 3-7 Sun Belt) were down 16-12 midway through the first game, and were able to pull within one at 19-18 before Western Kentucky (19-4, 8-0) closed out the game on an 11-5 run.
The Hilltoppers' momentum carried over to the second game, as they got out to an early 12-5 lead. FAU then took nine of the next 11 points to cut the lead to 15-14. WKU pushed the lead back out to five, which would end up being the final margin as Western Kentucky took the game 30-25.
Game three was a struggle in which neither team could establish firm control of the action. The largest lead of the game came was three, the last time came went WKU held a 25-22 lead. The Owls would close to within one at 29-28, but a Megan Argabright kill ended any comeback hopes.
Krystena Castro (13), Mallory Deneen (11) and Katie Arvidson (10) all had double-digit kills for FAU. The Owls return to action on Friday when they host UALR. The match has a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.
