Mean Green Topple Owls 80-72

Denton, TX - Bianca Sellers and Mistoria Brown each netted a career-high in points on Saturday night, but the Owls could not overcome a late deficit in falling to North Texas, 80-72.
"We battled back in the game and had chances until the very end," said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan." "We're getting closer to where we need to be, but we can't get into those holes and have to play catch up."
Facing an 11-point deficit at the 7:49 mark of the second, FAU went on a 6-0 run capped by a Bianca Sellers triple from the right corner that put them down 61-56 with six minutes to go. The Owls got the score to 64-61 on a Brown foul and point after, but allowed North Texas to regain an eight point lead after an Amanda Quattrocchi jumper with 1:39 to go.
After a Shuteamia Brayboy lay-up cut the Mean Green lead to 70-67 with 51 seconds left, North Texas responded with six straight uncontested free throws to secure their second Sun Belt win of the season.
Brown and Sellers each had career nights from the field. Brown's 14-of-20 effort from the field helped give her a new career high with 33 points. She finished the night with five rebounds as well. The freshman Sellers set a season best mark of 15 points on a 3-of-5 shooting effort. She shot 7-of-10 from the charity stripe.
Brittney Crenshaw had her second straight double-digit scoring night, putting in 12 points with nine rebounds.
During the first half UNT broke an 8-8 stalemate with an 18-0 run, which made their lead balloon to 26-8 with 9:36 left in the frame. The Owls would not be phased as they connected on eight free throws to cut the Mean Green advantage to 33-21. FAU would step up the intensity even further as they used a 12-1 run to trail by a single point, 34-33, with 1:29 remaining. North Texas ended the half with six unanswered points and headed to the half on top 40-33.
The Mean Green's leading scorer was Amber Jackson who had 17 points and seven rebounds. Sanetra Jackson shot 5-of-7 from the field, which helped her net 16 points. Amanda Quattrocchi and Talicia Sanders finished in double-digits with 10 points a piece.
FAU caused 30 turnovers and shot 66.7 percent from the free-throw line, but were out rebounded 41-37 and only had six assists on the night. UNT shot 47.3 percent from the field compared to the Owls 35.7 percent mark.
Florida Atlantic will be back at home this week to take on Louisiana-Lafayette on Thursday at 7 p.m.
