BOCA RATON, FL -- Head Coach Chancellor Dugan is pleased to announce the completion of the 2006-2007 Florida Atlantic University women's basketball schedule. The Owls play a competitive slate that starts off with match-ups against two Top-20 ranked teams in the Lindy's preseason poll.
"Opening up with two ranked opponents will challenge us and get us ready for a tough conference slate," said Dugan. "Moving to the Sun Belt is something we're looking forward to, and our team is excited to have the opportunity to play this level of basketball."
The season tips off with a match-up against No. 17 New Mexico on November 10 and is followed by a game against No. 13 Arizona State on November 12. This is part of the Veterans Day Tournament (November 10-13) in Tempe, AZ. The following weekend the Owls open their home season against Akron, the first game of the FAU Tip-Off Classic (November 17-19). Florida Atlantic hosts two tournaments this season, the second being the FAU Invitational (December 29-30). Other non-conference match-ups include the Vanderbilt Tournament (November 24-25), UAB Tournament (December 18-19) and a trip to Georgetown (December 9).
In the Owls' first season in the Sun Belt Conference they open up their conference schedule against Western Kentucky on December 2. Florida Atlantic welcomes several new Sun Belt foes to FAU Arena this year including Troy (Dec 14), Middle Tennessee State (January 11), Louisiana-Monroe (January 14), Louisiana Lafayette (January 25), UALR (January 28), Florida International (February 10), New Orleans (February 18) and South Alabama (February 22). FAU looks to make its second consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament after winning the Atlantic Sun Tournament last season.
The Owls posted a 9-5 home record last season, and this season's home contests promise to be just as exciting. For ticket information to all home games or for season tickets, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS or stop by the ticket office located on the Boca Raton campus.
