BOCA RATON, FL (September 10, 2006) - The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team defeated Binghamton 1-0 in overtime Sunday afternoon.
The score came in the 95th minute when Ran Poliker sent a ball across the goal mouth to Javier Carillo who was able to head it just inside the post for the score. The victory gave FAU an undefeated record in its home-opening weekend
The Owls were able to overcome the effects of Friday night's physical game with Mercer as they registered four shots in the first half. Binghamton keeper Jason Stenta was able to deny the Owls' attempts to score. FAU's defense was equally impressive as they allowed Binghamton just one shot in the period.
In the second half, both teams adopted a more open style of play which resulted in good opportunities to score. Neither team was able to register a goal and the game went into extra time.
FAU was clearly the more aggressive team to start overtime and it would pay off less than five minutes later as Poliker and Carillo teamed up for the score.
The Owls travel to Miami to play Florida International on Wednesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
