Former Owls having Productive Seasons in Pros

Outstanding defensive play has produced several web gems for former Florida Atlantic University baseball player Tommy Murphy and the outfielder remains in the major leagues with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Murphy has appeared in 36 games in his rookie season and is hitting .241 with one home run and five RBI with three stolen bases.
Other former Owls are doing well in professional baseball as well. Pitcher Danny Core has compiled a 3-1 record with a 3.84 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 58 2/3 innings with the Denedin Blue Jays. Core holds the FAU career records for most appearances, wins, innings pitched and strikeouts during his collegiate career from 2000-03.
Jeff Fiorentino is in AA ball with the Bowie Baysox. The Hollywood, FL native is second on the team with 32 walks and has scored 34 runs while his offensive abilities have led to eight home runs and 33 RBI. He holds with a .239 batting average.
In their rookie seasons in the minor leagues, Alex Fonseca and Mike McBryde have adjusted quickly. Fonseca (Tallahassee, FL) has moved over to play second base and is batting leadoff. He has tallied a .350 batting average with 10 RBI in 12 games with five doubles playing for the Arizona Angels. He also sports a .509 on-base percentage courtesy of 11 walks
McBryde (N. Palm Beach, FL) is playing for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. He is hitting .292 with five doubles, one triple, 14 RBI and has added eight stolen bases. McBryde has not pitched, but is expected to see time on the mound before the season's end.
With the High Desert Mavericks of the California League, Rusty Brown is hitting .274 with eight home runs with 42 RBI.
Opponents in the Eastern League, Tim McNab and Nick Mattioni are both playing important roles on the pitching staff of the Binghamton Mets and Reading Phillies, respectively. McNab holds a 3-2 record with a 3.34 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 35 innings of work, while Mattioni has 35 strikeouts in 43 innings. He holds a 3-3 record with a 3.14 ERA.
