Owls Drop Doubleheader to Jacksonville

Jacksonville University took two games from Florida Atlantic University in a doubleheader on Saturday at FAU Stadium. The Dolphins won game one 14-7 before taking the nightcap 8-7.
In game one, JU (23-13, 14-6 A-Sun) jumped up early with two runs in the first inning on a Gordie Gronkowski home run. It was the first of four home runs in the game for the Dolphins.
FAU answered back with two runs in the bottom of the frame with four hits off of JU starter Matt Dobbins. Dobbins gave up a homer to Tim Mascia in the fourth inning and another two runs in the fifth before being chased from the contest. The sophomore left with the lead and improved to 9-0 after he worked 5 2/3 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits.
The Dolphins (32-13, 14-6 A-Sun) posted four runs in the fifth inning and added another six in the eighth inning to record 14 runs on 18 hits.
Tim Mascia led the Owls in game one going 2-for-2 with two RBI, while Gordie Gronkowski went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI for JU.
In game two, the Owls fought back with four runs in the eighth inning to bring the Owls within one run but could not overcome a five-run deficit.
Anthony Albano finished the game 2-for-2 with two RBI, while Daniel Murphy paced the Dolphins with four RBI.
The third game of the series will take place on Sunday at noon.
