Boca Raton - One week after Makra Condill and Fred Marshall were honored at Florida Atlantic University's Honors Convocation the athletics department hosted its second-annual Senior Awards Dinner where 12 individuals were honored for their 2006 accomplishments.
Student-Athlete of the Year: Makra Condill (Volleyball) and Fred Marshall (basketball)
University sponsored award that recognizes an individual with a minimum 3.0 cumulative g.p.a, athletic performance and community service.
Makra Condill
A native of Crystal Lake, Ill, Makra Condill will earn her degree in marketing in May 2006 after a four-year volleyball career at FAU. Condill carries a 3.51 GPA and is a member of the Student-Athlete Honor Roll and the Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team.
A four-year starter as a libero, Condill broke all of FAU's defensive records during her career. As a junior, Condill was named the Atlantic Sun Libero of the Year. She finished the season with 502 digs to break the season record and recorded 36 digs in a match against Jacksonville to break the match record.
In her senior season, she led the team with 456 digs and helped guide the team to the program's best season with a 29-3 record, a conference championship and an NCAA Tournament berth.
Finding time to volunteer in the community, Condill worked with many groups of children to discuss the importance of education and what it means to be a student-athlete. She spent time at the Boys and Girls Club, the Boca Raton library and was part of National Student Athlete Day.
A local retirement home has also benefited from Condill's giving nature. Dixie Manor holds an annual Christmas party that she has organized and raised money to host. She has been part of the activity the past three years.
On campus, she serves as the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee which organizes community service events for the athletes and acts as the student-athletes voice to the administration.

Fred Marshall
Marshall averaged 4.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game for the 2005-06 season. He started 18 games as Florida Atlantic went 14-6 in conference play, just one game out of sharing the regular-season title.
In A-Sun games, Marshall averaged 5.4 points and 5.4 rebounds this season. He had career highs of 15 points against Mercer on Jan. 7 and 12 rebounds at Jacksonville on Feb. 25.
Overall in 2005-06, Marshall finished second on the team in rebounding and fourth in steals with 25. In just two years with the Owls, he totaled better than 200 points and 200 rebounds in 52 games and shot 77.0% at the free throw line.
Off the court, Marshall has spoken to high school students about the challenges of being a student-athlete in college and the opportunities that it presents. He has also participated in reading days at local elementary schools.
Marshall serves as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the ambassadorial body for athletes to the athletic department, university administration and the NCAA. In that role, he represented Florida Atlantic at the 2005 NCAA National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla.
As a participant in the Mentoring program, Marshall spoke to business leaders in the Boca Raton community about the importance of the program and the value of their contributions in preparing student-athletes for post-graduate life.
Marshall is a 2002 graduate of The Paideia School in Atlanta, where he was named Conference Player of the Year and Second Team All-State. He attended Mesa (Ariz.) Community College for two seasons prior to enrolling at Florida Atlantic.
Marshall carries a 3.02 GPA and will graduate this summer with his Bachelor's degree in Political Science.
Most Outstanding Athlete: Ellie Weberg (swimming) and Shomari Earls (football)
Athletic Department award that recognizes any student athlete, regardless of class, that had an outstanding season of competition.
Ellie Weberg
Ellie Weberg, a native of Bloomington, MN, set the school record in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke.
The junior was named the Sun Belt Swimmer of the Year as she led the Owls to the University's first Sun Belt Conference Championship. Weberg won both the 100 and 200-yard breast and recorded automatic qualifying times to the NCAA Championships where she finished fourth in both events to earn All-America recognition.
Shomari Earls
Shomari Earls joined the Owls in 2002 from nearby Lake Park, FL. Earls had an immediate impact as a true freshman and continued to progress through his senior season.
As a senior, he tallied a team leading 87 tackles and recorded seven for a loss of 26 yards. The middle linebacker earned First Team All-Sun Belt honors and was awarded the team's MVP and Defensive MVP honors in February. The Owls finished the first full season of Division I-A play with a 2-9 record.

Award is based on overall cumulative g.p.a. and professor evaluations.
Kendall Kirby

Senior, nursing major from Vero Beach, FL. Finished 24th at the 2006 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. Kirby holds a 3.713 and was a member of the Fall President and Dean's list.
Chris Vinci
Sophomore, breaststroker from Davie, FL. Vinci holds a 3.952 g.p.a. in Ocean Engineeering/Computer Science.
Sportsmanship Award: Megan Coyne (women's soccer) and Tim Mascia (baseball)
Players were nominated by their respective coaches for their character, leadership and sportsmanship on and off the playing field.
Megan Coyne
The Marysville, WA native helped to lead the Owls to a 16-4-1 record, the programs first A-Sun Conference Tournament Championship and NCAA post-season play. The junior was second in the nation in goals against average. She also teamed with Jessica Badders to hold the nation's best shutout percentage.
Tim Mascia
Tim Mascia came to FAU from Wellington, FL. He has been with the baseball teams since 2003 and has been a part of three NCAA tournaments. He is currently hitting .299 and has played in 35 of the team's 38 games.
Community Service Award: Claudia Soto (dance) and DiIvory Edgecomb (football)

Claudia Soto
Claudia Soto is a member of the FAU dance team who consistently volunteers to help the department at various public appearances and volunteers for community service.
DiIvory Edgecomb
The Miami native was part of a three-man backfield rotation in 2006. On the ground he carried the ball for 295 yards and one touchdown. Off the field he was a regular volunteer at community service activities.

This junior plays for a team that will play nearly 60 games this season yet she finds time to support and is a regular at all FAU events.
Adam Epstein
Adam Epstein came to FAU by way of Orlando. He is a freshman that joined a team rich with a tradition of supporting FAU teams, in fact the presence and cheering by the men's swim team has altered or shifted the momentum of games. Epstein has embraced that spirit and is regular at games and has even help prepare the setting for games.
