GAINESVILLE, FL -- Marilyn Stephens improved her Atlantic Sun Conference-leading 400m time by two-tenths of a second to 55.20 seconds as the Florida Atlantic University women's track and field team took part in the Diet Pepsi Invitational on Saturday in Gainesville, FL.
Stephens held the conference's top mark at 55.40, posted last week at the Disney Invitational, and backed that up with Saturday's performance.
Malika Clary also posted season-best times in the 200m and 400m, and Lindsay Glover improved her 2006 top-marks in both the 100m and 400m hurdles.
Krystena Castro threw the discus 133-05 to match her personal-best set at the USF Invite on March 11.
Monika Grabowiecka continued her comeback from injury, improving her top 2006 outdoor season time in the 5,000m by 27 seconds (18:29.12).
The Owls had to not only battle their competition this weekend, but also illness. Much of the team was sick over the weekend, a problem that head coach Alex Smolka hopes is helped by a few days off.
"We're definitely moving in the right direction and we seem to be ready for the conference meet. Unfortunately, we have a bunch of people that are sick, so hopefully the two weeks will help us get healthy and fine-tune for the A-Sun Championship," he said.
This weekend was the final competition for FAU until the A-Sun Championship, scheduled for April 14-15 in Clermont, FL.
