Florida Atlantic University's baseball team will open its third home series of the season on Friday at 7 p.m. against the University of Louisville. It will be the season opener for the Cardinals while FAU enters the series with a 2-4 record.
Ovy Ramirez leads FAU with a .400 batting average and five RBI, while Anthony Albano follows with five RBI, two doubles and a home run. Albano's .750 slugging percentage is the highest on the squad, but freshman William Block has posted the most homers for the year with two.
FAU's rotation will continue to be Mickey Storey, Chris Salberg and Joel Schmal. Both Storey and Salberg threw six scoreless innings last weekend against Southern Illinois University. Storey recorded a season-high nine strikeouts and Salberg allowed just two hits in each of their respective starts.
With 22 returning letterwinners, including 12 pitchers, Louisville is looking to improve on a 32-24 record from 2005. Boomer Whiting is the biggest offensive threat for Louisville. The outfielder hit .327 last season and was named Second-Team All-Conference after scoring 56 runs and stealing 26 bases.
Starters B.J. Rosenberg and Trystan Magnuson return after winning five games last year. Out of the bullpen, Griffin Bailey was 4-1 with a 2.59 ERA and two saves. Senior Brian Halford is third in the school's history with 15 saves
