Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University Owls will be spending their thanksgiving weekend in Nashville, TN as one of four teams in the Vanderbilt thanksgiving tournament. FAU will open the two-day event with their third ranked opponent of the season, No. 15 Vanderbilt (4-0) on Friday at 1 p.m.
"Any time you get into a situation where your playing this type of competition you've got to get out there and play as hard as you can, "said Head Coach Chancellor Dugan. " If you put in a good game plan and a scouting report you never know what can happen."
Florida Atlantic (1-4) split their FAU Tip-Off Classic matches by defeating Akron 88-77 on Friday and than falling to Winthrop 70-67 on Saturday. Chancellor Dugan received her 100th victory as an Owls coach in Friday's contest. FAU out rebounded both opponents in the two games.
Mistoria Brown had a stellar weekend, finishing with a career-high 29 points against Akron on Friday. The senior shot 10-of-14 from the field with six rebounds and a near perfect 9-of-10 effort from the charity stripe. Brown also led the team in scoring against Winthrop, netting a team-high 13 points with six rebounds in 22 minutes of action. Mistoria was a member of the all-tournament team.
Several other Owls achieved career-high goals over the weekend. Shuteamia Brayboy matched her career-best scoring effort against Akron, netting 10-points. The point guard would have 10 assists in each of the games. Adel Lizama had a career-high nine points against Winthrop, while Breana Cox's 11 boards against Akron were a new high for the sophomore post-player.
No. 15 Vanderbilt, No. 19 California, and Belmont round out the field of competition participating in the Vanderbilt thanksgiving tournament. FAU has never faced Vanderbilt or California and has a 4-5 all-time record against Belmont.
