BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team defeated New Jersey Tech 2-0 on Saturday night.
The Owls struck early as Javier Carillo beat NJIT keeper Collin Cunning on a cross early in the 8th minute for his third goal of the season. The Owls peppered the NJIT defense with 10 shots in the first half but were left with just one goal through the first 45 minutes. FAU ended the match with a season high 21 shots.
The Owls were able to score an insurance goal in the 78th minute as Shire Standnes recieved a ball behind the NJIT defense and beat Cunning to the left corner to put FAU up 2-0.
Ran Poliker, who was one of six seniors recognized before the match, assisted on both Owl goals.
The win means FAU is still alive in the hunt for the Atlantic Soccer Conference Tournament. The tournament, which will feature the top four teams in the conference, will be hosted by the regular season champion.
FAU's record now stands at 4-8-1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play.
