BOCA RATON, FL -- In the midst of a modest three-game winning streak the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team returns to the road after a brief two-game home stand.
The Owls will head to Little Rock, AR, where the Trojans will be waiting. The match is set for October 20 at 8 p.m., eastern. Following the match, FAU will travel to Jonesboro, AR to face Arkansas State in a 2 p.m. match scheduled for October 22.
UALR (4-11-0, 2-6-0 SBC) enters the contest having dropped each of its last four contests. The team's last win came on October 1 versus Louisiana-Monroe.
The Trojans have a diverse offensive attack, with Jessica Beaver scoring five goals to lead the way. Behind her, four others have three goals on the year. UALR has been outscored 38-22 on the year.
In net, Ashley Boccarossa sees much of the action. She's started all but one contest, playing 956:25. She's allowed 28 goals while making 52 saves and posting one shutout.
Arkansas State (1-14-1, 1-7-0 SBC) has dropped five strait decisions, getting blanked in each of the last four.
Markie McRae and her seven goals lead the Indians' offense. Jessie Zingo is the only other player with more than one goal (two). ASU has been outscored 46-11 on the season. Kelly Goodman has gotten the majority of the goaltending minutes, allowing 29 goals in 769:35. She's made 72 saves and has one shutout on the season.
Florida Atlantic (7-7-2, 4-4-0 SBC) picked up wins over South Alabama and Troy last weekend, and has won three in a row after dropping five of its last six. The Owls' offensive attack is spearheaded by Alicia Tirelli, Tessa McGarrity and Susanna Lehtinen, who have combined to score 18 of the team's 28 goals. Tirelli leads the team with seven, McGarrity has six after a hat trick versus Troy, and Lehtinen is third with five. Tirelli leads the team in points with 18 while McGarrity and Lehtinen each have 15. The only other Owls with more than one tally are Natalie D'Oria (three) and Beckie Ware (two).
The Owls have outscored their opponents 28-23 on the year.
Megan Coyne has taken over as the team's primary netminder after sharing time all of last season and much of this year with Jessica Badders. Coyne has played a major role in the team's three-game winning streak, not allowing a goal in any of the three matches. She has played in all 16 of the team's games, starting 10. In 863:26 of play she's allowed 13 goals while making 36 saves and has one solo shutout to her credit. Jessica Badders has still found a way to contribute over the last three contests, replacing Coyne during the second half of each of the past three games. She has also not allowed a goal during that time.
Including these two matches FAU has just three games remaining, all within the Sun Belt Conference. The Owls return home next week to host Florida International in the team's final regular season contest of the season.
