With only one month left until the Sun Belt Championships, Florida Atlantic University's swimming and diving teams used a meet on Saturday at Florida State University to prepare for the championships. The teams competed against FSU, Florida A&M and Indian River Community College.
The women started the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay. Geni Burts, Ellie Weberg, Jennifer Forcht and Bianca Murphy teamed for a time of 1:46.78 in the event.
The team jumped out to an early lead as Lauren Shue (10:13.48), Danielle Duykendall (10:23.63) and Yasmin Siggins (10:28.20) took the top three spots in the 1000 free. Shue picked up her second win in the 500 free with a time of 4:59.01.
Following up the win in the 200 medley relay, Weberg won the 100 breast in 1:03.81 and Forcht led the charge in the 200 fly with a time of 2:06.02, narrowly edging out teammate Shawna Griffith in 2:06.03.
Murphy picked up her second first place finish with a tie in the 100 free. She and Indian River's Amanda Neubig both finished in 52.87.
The women's team closed out the meet but could not close the gap between Florida State with a win in the 200 free relay. Ashley Carlozzi, Stephanie DeRito, Forcht and Murphy touched the wall in 1:36.92
Kevin Bartell, Christian Baker and Pavel Babaev eached paced the men's team with third place finishes. Bartell scored with a time of 56.29 in the 100 breast and Baker took third in the 200 breast (2:12.27). Babaev touched the wall in 21.30 in the 50 free to lead the FAU scoring.
The teams will travel to Miami to face UM and Tampa on Jan. 21 before traveling to Denver, CO for the Sun Belt Championships on Feb. 16-18.
