Florida Atlantic University's volleyball team started its five match road swing with a 3-1 win over St. Peter's College on Thursday afternoon. After dropping the first game, FAU won the next three to improve to 14-0. The Peahens fall to 8-8 after the Owls snapped their five-match winning streak.
After falling 30-18, FAU rebounded to tie the game at 1-1 with a 30-22 win in the second game as Saint Peter's managed only nine kills,
The third game saw the Peahens pull to within 27-24 with six unanswered points. An attacking error gave the serve back to FAU and the teams traded points before FAU took the 2-1 advantage.
After spotting Saint Peter's a 20-15 lead, the Owls battled back in game four. Libero Makra Condill (Crystal Lake, IL) served seven straight points as FAU went ahead 26-22. One of Kelly Paiva's (Minas Gerais, Brazil) 19 kills closed out the match. Middle hitters Katie Arvidson (Franklin, TN) and Justine Petry (Trumansburg, NY) followed with 15 and seven kills, respectively.
Condill finished with three aces and a match-high 17 kills followed by Paiva's 13 and Dimitra Samas' (Jamaica Estates, NY) 10. Casey LaRocca (St. Louis, MO) ran the offense with 39 assists.
Gulhan Cakcak and Sasha Pshenychka led St. Peter's with 17 and 16 kills, respectively.
FAU will participate in the Courtyard by Marriott LIU Classic in Brooklyn, NY on Friday and Saturday. The Owls will face Iona, Long Island, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Northern Colorado in the two-day event.
